Japan National's Draw Sheets! JKF全国大会組合表、ローマ字で！

The JKF has kindly released the Dec 11-12 Japan Cup National Championship's Draw Sheets. This is a very good idea for helping fans prepare for the tournament.

To help people who don't read Japanese, I added romaji to all the athletes names and their locations. Also, on the kata sheet there was extra space so I included recent tournament results for each athlete.

全空連が親切にも12/11-12に行われる全国大会の進行表をホームーページで掲載しました。大会に備えるのにとてもいいアイデアですね。

日本語を読めない人のために、僕が選手名と都道府県名をローマ字で入れてみました。あと、形の進行表にスペースがあったので、選手の最近の大会成績も加えました。

New JKF membership card 新らしい全空連会員カード

While most Japanese karateka have seen a JKF membership, most non-Japanese haven't. On the left is my new five year gold card and on the right is my old two year silver card. On the back lists the membership number, member's address and any JKF rank qualifications, like dan level or official's level.

There are several benefits to being a JKF member, one being I can get into the Japan Nationals at the Nippon Budokan for free.

日本人の空手家の皆さんは全空連会員証を見たこたがあると思いますが、外国人の空手家のほとんどは見たことがないと思います。左が、新らしい５年間のゴールドの会員証で、右が以前のシルバーの会員証です。裏には会員番号・会員住所・有段ランクや審判ランクが書いてあります。

会員になるといろいろなメリットがあるんですが、その１つに、日本武道館の全国大会に無料で入れることですね。

Kushanku Enbu by Wadokai Junior Team クシャンクー演武

Here's a great team kata performance of Kushanku by the Wadokai Junior National Team. The members are Reon Oshio-kun, Kaoru Maruyama-kun and Ryouta Tanaka-kun. The event was the Wadokai World Cup 2010 in Nagoya.

This is a wonderful example to show young athletes how to perform kata properly, plus adults can also learn from it as well.

これは和道会ジュニアナショナルチームの素晴らしいクシャンクー形の演武です。代表が押尾玲音君と丸山芳君と田中良太君です。和道会ワールドカップ２０１０の時のビデオです。

この演武は若い選手にどのように形を正しく演技するか見せるのに最適な一例です。大人も学べるところがありますね。

38th Japan Cup poster! 第38回全日本空手道選手権大会ポスター！

Here's one of the poster's I put up in the school.

December 11th are the team events in the Tokyo Budokan, and December 12th are also the individual events in the Nippon Budokan.

I'll be putting up the results and some video right afterwards.

The individual finals will be broadcast on December 18 from 3-4pm on the NHK Educational Channel.

Nippon Budogakuen practice! 日本武道学園での稽古！

On Thursday, November 11 I took visiting Ireland Wadokai member Eddie Mc Connell to the Nippon Budokan's Budogakuen karate practice. Dr. Hideo Takagi Sensei (of Guseikai Takagi Dojo) is the instructor. Normally Arakawa Takamasa Sensei is also there, but he had to oversee a kyu test at his dojo.

１１月１１日（木）にアイルランド和道会会員のエディ・マコネール氏を日本武道館での武道学園の稽古にお連れしました。偶成会高木道場の高木秀穂先生にご指導いただきました。普段は白水修養会の荒川尊祐先生もご指導されていますが、その日は白水修養会で昇級審査があるためご不在でした。


As anyone knows who has been to a Takagi Sensei lesson, more practice and more practice is always needed. Thanks to the dojo for allowing us to participate, I look forward to attending again soon.

高木師範の稽古に参加された方はご存知でしょうが、練習がもっともっと必要であることを実感させられます。
師範と道場の方々、ありがとうございました。

Canadian Embassy Study Fair カナダ大使館留学ファア

Thursday, November 4th I attended the study-in-Canada student fair at the Canadian embassy, and the event was very well put together.

While this was my sixth year attending, it is the first year the ambassador's official residence behind the embassy was used for a buffet lunch, which I don't know how to describe other than splendid.

The Ambassador Jonathan Fried mentioned that the embassy has seen an increase of 20% in student visa applications over last year. This would go against the recent trend of less Japanese studying abroad in recent years.

１１月４日、カナダ大使館で開催されたカナダ留学フェアに参加しました。とてもよくまとめられたフェアでした。

僕は過去6年のこのフェアに参加していますが、大使館の裏手にある大使の公邸がビュッフェ式ランチに使用されたのは初めてでした。それは、ただ、すばらしいの一言に尽きます。

駐日カナダ大使ジョナサン・Ｔ・フリード氏の説明では、今年発給した学生ビザ数は去年よりも２０％増えたのだそうです。これは、近年見られる日本人の海外留学数の減少に反します。

Interesting thing is I met several Canadians who practice karate and one Japanese school rep who did kyudo, so there's always a budo connection wherever I go it seems. Or maybe because once I explain I'm a karate coach, the budo connections reveal themselves.

面白いことに、この会場で空手をするカナダ人数人と弓道をする学校代表者がいたことです。僕が行くとこどこでも武道関連になる、という感じで。

というより、僕が空手のコーチだと言うと、武道繋がりが自ずと出現するんですかね。

Tokyo High School League Fall Tournament! 東京高体連の新人戦

On October 31 the Tokyo High School Karate Federation's Fall tournament for individual events was held at Seiritsu. The team events were held at Hozen High School on Wednesday, November 3, which was a national holiday called Culture Day. The top 2 athletes go onto the Kanto tournament in January, which is the qualifier for the High School Nationals in March.

１０月３１日に東京高体連関東選抜大会予選の個人戦が成立学園の体育館にて、団体戦が文化の日の水曜日に保善高等学校で行われました。優勝と準優勝の選手が１月の関東大会（全国選抜大会予選）に出場します。


The student's are still getting use to the new rules with no touching the face guards.

選手達は、メンホーに接触させてはいけないという新ルールにまだ慣れていないようです。

The tournament winners who get to go to the Kanto Tournament are below. Because Setagaya and Yakumo won their divisions at last year's High School Championships, one more team is allowed to go to Kanto.

Finally, a video online of the epic match between Ko Matsuhisa (Japan - blue) & Rafael Aghayev (Azerbaijan - red)! The score board correct, but it's backwards to the position of the athletes. A wonderful performance by both athletes.

Big website shock! ドメインの大きなショック！

Where was my domain for the last 5 days!?

僕のドメインはここ5日間どこにあったのか?!

The domain registration service I use told me last month they had automatically renewed my domain name for this year, but they gave me a big shock when I saw they actually didn't renew it AND another company grabbed my domain!

But things are fine as of today. I now resume my regularly scheduled bilingual karate-talk programming.

利用しているドメインが、ある会社に使われていました。先月更新したつもりがむこうのミスで更新できていませんでした。 自分のブログを書こうとページを開いた時、別の会社のページのドメインになっていて僕は大きなショックをうけました！

しかし、今朝直り、今は平気です。またバイリンガル空手話を再開します。

This is what almost gave me a heart attack!
