Thursday, November 4th I attended the study-in-Canada student fair at the Canadian embassy, and the event was very well put together.While this was my sixth year attending, it is the first year the ambassador's official residence behind the embassy was used for a buffet lunch, which I don't know how to describe other than splendid.
The Ambassador Jonathan Fried mentioned that the embassy has seen an increase of 20% in student visa applications over last year. This would go against the recent trend of less Japanese studying abroad in recent years.

Interesting thing is I met several Canadians who practice karate and one Japanese school rep who did kyudo, so there's always a budo connection wherever I go it seems. Or maybe because once I explain I'm a karate coach, the budo connections reveal themselves.面白いことに、この会場で空手をするカナダ人数人と弓道をする学校代表者がいたことです。僕が行くとこどこでも武道関連になる、という感じで。
というより、僕が空手のコーチだと言うと、武道繋がりが自ずと出現するんですかね。
