Paul returns to Thailand タイ帰国

Our Chiang Mai, Thailand Wadokai member friend Paul returned after a 2 week training trip at Shiramizu. Here we are having after a quick lunch with Arakawa Sensei last month just before he left.

タイのチェンマイから和道会メンバーのポールさんが２週間白水での稽古を終えて、タイに帰りました。写真は荒川先生、ポールさんと僕が出発前にランチを食べた時のです。

Last night I accepted the challenge to be the Shiramizu Karate DVD's English narrator!
昨晩、白水修養会新空手ＤＶＤの英語ナレーションのチャレンジしてみました！

Arakawa Sensei's 'Wado-do Karate-Do' video will be released in March with English narrations and subtitles.
荒川先生の「Wado-style Do-Karate-do」ＤＶＤは3月中旬に発売予定、英語のナレーションと英語字幕もあります。

I got to see a rough cut of the DVD at the sound studio too, which Champ Video is producing. It is really looking good so I hope everyone picks one up!
昨日、録音スタジオでチャンプビデオを作るためのＤＶＤの編集を見ました、凄いよ、皆な持ったほうがいいね。

For sure the club students will analyse the video with me.

Meeting of the minds 空手トークトークトーク！

Today I had a mind-meld with Shiramizu's Arakawa Sensei over lunch at a Turkish restaurant in Ikebukuro. Lots and lots of 'karate shop talk'. Sensei's positive enthusiasm is infectious. And we somehow always come up with many karate project ideas. Big ideas... ah, but good things come to those who wait so stay tuned...

今日、池袋のトルコ料理のレストランで白水修養会の荒川先生とランチをしました：頭脳の融合です。多くが空手の仕事の話。先生のポジティブな熱意が伝わると、ついこちらも熱くなってきます。そしていつも空手に関するプロジェクトのアイデアをたくさん思いつくのです。

ビッグ・アイデア。。。果報は寝て待て、ですね。

Shiramizu practice! 白水修養会での午前中練習！

Lunch time!　ランチタイム！

Wednesday morning I took some international students to Shiramizu Dojo for Arakawa Sensei's morning practice. Pete the Intern and visitor Jurgen Fabian from Germany were also there.

Once when I was translating for Sensei, I thought I heard him say someone's technique was kusai (stinky) when he actually said kuse (bad habit) as in someone's incorrect technique is their bad habit. So that was funny as for the first few seconds I was thinking that must be a very poor technique is Sensei says it smells.

水曜日の午前中、二人の留学生を白水修養会の道場まで連れていき、荒川先生の練習に参加しました。白水修養会外国人研修生のピートとドイツから来日中のファビアンさんもいました。

通訳をしている時、先生が誰かの技に「癖」があると言ったのを、僕は最初「くせー」と言ったと思って、「え？だれの技がすごく下手で、先生はくさいと思ったんだろう」と考えましたが、そうではなくて、「癖」と言ったと分かりました。「くせ」と「くさい」の僕の勘違いを先生に説明して、皆で笑いました!

We've decided on the new karate intern! 次期空手研修生決まる！

Last Friday Shiramizu Karate's Arakawa Sensei and I selected the next karate intern. His name is Pete Williams from the UK. Please visit the internship website to read more about him.

Sensei came to my school so we could talk about who to choose. Of course, he was positive and enthusiastic, which always motivates me.
