Earthquake 地震

Thanks to everyone for the many emails and phone calls.
We are all fine.
Tokyo looks completely normal and the trains are starting to run slowly again.

I'll blog later to describe the unbelievably large quake we had.

JKF Junior High Teaching Manual JKFの中学生空手道の指導手引き

From this year Japanese schools may official begin teaching Budo in their physical education classes. To assist junior high teachers, the Nippon Budokan and the Japan Karatedo Federation have produced a thorough teaching manual on both the theory and technical aspects of karate.

Since I teach karate to junior high school students, I've very glad to have received this manual, as it also helps to improve my technical karate language skills. At first glance it seems like the Shotokan style is displayed in some of it, but it is all general basic information applicable to all styles.

今年から日本の中学校では体育の授業で武道を指導し始めます。中学の先生向けに、日本武道館と全日本空手道連盟が空手の理論と実技についての指導書を発行しました。

僕は中学生に空手を指導しているので、この手引きをいただいて良かったですし、空手を指導する上での技術的な言い回しなどを上達させるのに重宝しそうです。ちらっと見たところでは、松濤館流の写真が目につきましたが、全ての流派に当てはまる基本について書いてあります。

High School Graduation 高校の卒業式

On Sunday, March 6 the high school students had their graduation ceremony. For the karate club, 5 students graduated; Kaz, Daichi, Shinya, Yukari and Risa. Except for one, they were beginners to karate when they joined 3 years ago as 1st year students, but they all tried very hard. The girls made it to Nationals once and the boys and girls made it to the summer Kanto Regionals last year.

３月６日は高等部の卒業式でした。空手道部からは、カズ、ダイチ、シンヤ、ユカリ、リサの５人が卒業しました。３年前入部した当時、１人を除いてはみんな空手未経験でしたが、皆一生懸命稽古に励みました。女子は一度選抜大会に出場し、男子も女子も去年の夏の関東大会に出場を果たしました。
