Plyometrics! ハッドフィットネストレーニング！

Richard Heselton lead Pete and I through a very hard plyometrics workout tailored to kumite. Afterwards, I was completely exhausted. I've been working out more everyday to get ready for the Wadokai Kanto Taikai (master's kata and kumite) and the Nihon Sport's Masters All-Japan qualifiers for the Tokyo Team (men’s group one kumite).

ヘセルトン・リチャードさんがリードして、ウィリアムズ・ピーターさんと僕と一緒にきついプライオメトリクスの組手練習をしました。

終了後はくたくたでした。

最近、毎日このようなハードな練習をしている理由は、今度、和道会関東大会（シニア男子形と組手部)と日本スポーツマスターズ2012空手道競技会(男子組手1部）東京予選に出るからです。

Some things the workout included were　練習の内容；

flat ladder step work, with and without bands

inverted wall climbing　壁腕立て

10kg rebound medicine ball　10kgメディシン・バール投げ

explosive jumps followed with heavy bag hits
ジャンプ・着地・サンドバッグセット

kumite drills with bands　バンドを使った組手練習

and much more.　などなど…

UFC 144! アルティメット・ファイティング・チャンピオンシップ!

Yesterday I got the chance to see my first UFC event live at the Saitama Super Arena. When I left Canada a long time ago UFC was still a fringe sport, but seeing how professional the fighters are and how well organized the event was run is clearly part of the reason for its growing popularity. The fighters were in top form, and while I enjoyed each match I was able to watch, New Zealand's Mark Hunt landed a perfectly timed KO punch on France's Chieck Kongo that was truly impressive.

Based on how this event was run, traditional karate could learn some things about putting on a unique championship for the many fans out there as well.

昨日、さいたまスーパーアリーナでUFC１４４総合格闘技イベントに行きました。数年前にカナダから日本に来た時にはUFCリーグはまだまだ人気ではありませんでしたが、最近はイベントもしっかりし、また、プロフェッショナルな気持ちを持った選手が増えました。それが最近の人気の理由だと思います。選手は最高のコンディションで、特にニュージーランド人のマーク・ハント選手のKOパンチのタイミングは最高でした。

伝統的な空手の大会でもこのUFC144総合格闘技イベントから学べるものはたくさんあるはずです。

Official's Kumite Practice Seminar 審判講習会

On Sunday at the JKF training hall, over 200 Kanto area JKF officials participated in a practice seminar. I took some Seiritsu club students so that they could get practice as athletes. It's always best for them to perform in front of officials so they can realize what skills score points and what do not.

日曜日に全空連会館で200人以上の全空連審判たちが集まる講習会が開催されました。成立学園空手道部メンバー達は、参加された審判講習会の選手役を担当しました。参加した生徒達は、明確な攻撃ポイントが理解できるようになり、大変充実した講習会の参加となりました。

Master's Thesis Proposal 修論プロポーザル

It's been an extremely busy 4 weeks finishing the second of four terms towards my masters in Sophia University's Graduate Program in Global Studies. But I'm here to report things are going well as I passed my graduation thesis proposal which is on the 'Globalization of Karate from a Japan perspective'.

この４週間とても忙しかったです。上智大学院のグローバル社会専攻で修士４学期の２学期が終わりました。でも、いいことを発表できます。修論プロポーザル「空手のグローバリゼーション：日本の視野」が合格しました。

Of course it was a little nerve wracking to present in front of the program's professors during the same time as final papers were due, but the overall reaction was good and my few jokes seemed to go over well (i.e. karate can be pronounced as Japanese ka-la-te, American ka-rah-ee, or like the British ka-ra...Teah.)

大学先生の前での口頭試問はどきどきでしたが、先生たちの反応は良かったと思います。僕が冗談を言った時、皆が笑ってくれましたし（例；空手の発音が日本では「からて」ですが、米国では「か〜るぁ〜てぇ〜」で、英国では「から・て」であることなど）。

Wish me luck as now the research and writing begins... to 100 pages. Due in December.

研究と修論を書かなくてはいけません、英語で１００ページ。。。期限は１２月。がんばります！
